Engineered for riders seeking a reliable and comfortable ride on pavement and gravel, this bike is built with premium features that elevate your cycling experience.

Exceptional Materials & Construction

The Surly Preamble boasts a 100% Surly Chromoly steel frame and fork, crafted using double-butted tubing for enhanced strength, lightweight performance, and a smooth ride feel. The steel construction ensures durability, shock absorption, and a classic aesthetic that ages gracefully. Its rigid fork complements the frame’s sturdy design, making it ideal for mixed terrain adventures.

Performance & Engineering

Designed to accommodate a range of rider sizes with five thoughtfully fitted options-XS, S, M, L, XL-the Preamble’s slightly sloped top tube on smaller sizes improves standover clearance and comfort. Compatible with both 1x and 2x drivetrains, it offers versatile gearing options perfect for commuting, gravel grinding, or weekend exploration. The bike features disc brakes for powerful, consistent stopping even in wet conditions, ensuring safety and control across diverse environments.

Components & Technology

Built with disc brake-specific geometry and a rigid steel platform, the Preamble delivers precise handling and reliable performance. It features quick-release rear and front axles (QR x 138mm and QR x 100mm), compatible with 650b wheelsets that support up to 41mm tires for gravel and dirt trails, or 700c x 41mm tires for on-road comfort. Multiple mounts for racks, fenders, and two bottle cages (located on the seat tube and down tube) provide exceptional versatility for commuting, touring, or bikepacking.

Style & Use Case

The clean Thorfrost White finish highlights Surly’s utilitarian yet stylish design ethos, making the Preamble suitable for both daily commuting and weekend adventures.
